The LIMINALITY Series

Liminality:

 this work is a series about light its fracture and relationship to its absence.

I use the word Liminality to describe the transience from dark to light and back again.

The series explores intervals, interruptions and diffusion of fractured white light using black to create the idea of absence and white to express it’s presence.

Liminality is a state of transition between one stage and the next, especially between major stages in one’s life or during a rite of passage.

This is also a metaphor about our relationship with our selves and the multiplicities we present in our relationships and all our everyday interactions with others.

No two people meet the same individual ,  A Different Version of You Exists in the Minds of EVERYONE You’ve Ever Known.

The same is true of  colour perception no two reds are identically perceived , nor blues nor any of the fractures of white light.

The absence of light is however a constant and yet perceived through an infinite number of interpretations and relationships.

We know the speed of light. What is the speed of Dark?

A cabinet of curiosities

Exhibited a wide variety of objects and artefacts, with a particular leaning towards the rare, eclectic and esoteric.

Through the selection of objects, they told a particular story about the world and its history.

The cabinets commonly featured antiques, objects of natural history even works of art.

In cabinets of curiosities, collections were often organised into about four categories (called in Latin):

Artificialia, which groups the objects created or modified by human (antiques, works of art);

Naturalia, which includes creatures and natural objects (with a particular interest in monsters);

Exotica, which includes exotic plants and animals; and

Scientifica, which brings together scientific instruments.

abstraction: An encompassing term for concepts and ideas understood apart from concrete objects or specific instances.

Abstract entities, embody a group forming unique concepts or illustrating intangible ideas.
